The Heiress: A play by Ruth and Augustus Goetz

Show runs Oct. 27-Nov. 6. 2004

A story of the transforming power of love and the tragedy of betrayal unfolds on the Trinity Western University stage this fall. Influenced by Henry James' novel, Washington Square, The Heiress brings to life the extravagance of 19th century New York high society through complex characters and lavish costumes.

Diminished by the unrealistic expectations of her father, Catherine Sloper lives in the shadow of a mother she never knew. When the handsome and charming Morris Townsend pursues the young heiress, her father is suspicious of the young man's motives. Is it Catherine that Morris desires or only her fortune?

Directed by Angela Konrad, the cast for The Heiress includes local actors Alecia Braun (Beau Jest) as Catherine Sloper and Josh Doerksen as Dr. Austin Sloper. Other cast members are¬ Thomas Gage, Diana Squires, Rebecca Branscom, Charlene Crawford, Laura Van Dyke, Sarah Gonzales, and Bert Slessor.

The production and design team includes costume designer Nicole Bach, set designer James Friesen and lighting designer Mike Dickinson.

The Heiress runs Wednesday to Saturday, October 27-30 and November 3-6 at 8:00 p.m., with matinees at 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The theatre is located in Freedom Hall of the Robert N. Thompson building on the TWU campus (7600 Glover Road). Tickets are $5-$12 and are available at the University Bookstore or at the door.
