SOC Must Sees!

The VOC Soul Gospel Choir is back along with many other exciting talent and events at the 2008 Great West Life Spirit of Christmas.

For eleven hours over the span of two days Trinity Western University will be spreading the holiday cheer as it hosts the 3rd annual Great West Life Spirit of Christmas. With the event offering a wide array of activities including concerts by local and international artists, a children's activity centre, carolers, an outdoor theatrical presentation, carriage rides and a petting zoo, it can seem like an overwhelming task just deciding which activities to take in! While you can rest assured that all of the events promise to be festive and fun, this year we've compiled a list of "mustsee" attractions to get you started on your Great West Life Spirit of Christmas experience.

Horse Drawn Carriage Rides: There's nothing like sleigh bells ringing and a one horse open sleigh to get you in the mood for Christmas. Departing every twenty minutes, the Great West Life Spirit of Christmas offers free horse drawn carriage rides around the festively decorated campus. This is a great activity for families, friends, and couples young and old.

Outdoor Living Nativity: This outdoor theatrical presentation takes audiences through the biblical story of Christ's birth using song and storytelling in a creative narration reminiscent of traditional nativity pastorals. A charming performance, the Living Nativity is sure to remind audiences of the reason for the season and warm hearts along the way. The show runs from Friday November 28th to Saturday 29th with a new presentation starting every 45 minutes.

VOC Soul Gospel Choir: Back for the third year in a row, the Vancouver Outreach Community (VOC) Soul Gospel Choir is guaranteed to get you moving and put you in the Christmas spirit. With 130 members singing in rich, six-part harmonies, this choir's fusion of Soul, Gospel, R&B, Jazz, Hawaiian, Calypso, and Reggae is sure to be a treat for your ears. Catch the Choir on Saturday November from 3-4 pm.

The Petting Zoo: If you plan to make this a family affair, the petting zoo is always a favorite for the kiddies. And rumor has it that a baby donkey may be in attendance at this year's event, so be sure to schedule in a stop at the barnyard!

Greg Neufeld: If you love pop and rock music then Greg Neufeld is one act that you don't want to miss. A finalist in Season 5 of Canadian Idol, Neufeld has worked with some of the best in the business and will be releasing a new album soon. Check out Greg on Saturday November 29th from 7-8 pm.

Children's Activity Centre: Hosted by Trinity Western University Student Association, the Children's Activity Centre is a great place for the kid's to get creative with various crafts like coloring and ornament making. Make your way to the Lower Café and watch your child create a Christmas masterpiece.

Christmas Carolers: As you tour the grounds, make sure to enjoy the Christmas Carolers who will be spreading their joyous strains around the campus throughout the event. Whether you take a few moments to stand and watch these fantastic vocalists or simply enjoy the ambient music as you walk around, these carolers are sure to add a seasonal flavor to the event.

Kunaka: Kunaka, a group made up of 10 young artists aged 12 to 15 who have been performing spirited marimba music around the world, are bringing their talents to the Great West Life Spirit of Christmas, and this is an event you don't want to miss. If you feel like dancing to a different beat, come and see Kunaka perform on Friday November 28th from 6-7 pm or Saturday November 29th from 2-3 pm.
