Spartans Solid in Victory

Lethbridge, Alberta - Led by Brian Scrivens' three second-half goals, the Trinity Western University men's soccer team controlled all aspects of Saturday afternoon's 6-1 win over the hometown University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. The win moves the Spartans one step closer to clinching a play-off spot in the highly competitive Canada West Conference.

With three matches remaining the Spartans, who are 6-2-1 in Canada West conference play, are six points ahead of fourth place Victoria and sit just one point behind the first place University of Alberta Golden Bears (6-1-2), who are ranked #3 in the CIS.

The # 7 ranked Spartans outshot the Pronghorns 23-5 in today's lopsided contest. In addition to Brian Scrivens' goals (59th, 60th, 87th) the Spartans also had markers from Josh McCaig in the 17th minute, Nicola Perugini in the 25th minute, and James Riehl in the 80th minute. Matt Hillen scored the lone goal for Lethbridge in the 44th minute.

"The boys played very well and we got every body in so it was a good day for us," said TWU head coach Al Alderson.

Match notes: Last season the Spartans had a similar advantage in play, but lost the match 2-1...Jacob Hanson played the entire 90 minutes in net for the Spartans...
