Spartans Streak Sits at Four
TWU heads home with 2-1 win

OLYMPIA , Washington
– Forward Adrian Kekec (4th year, forward, Burnaby, B.C., transfer – Capilano College) notched another goal and the Trinity Western University men’s soccer team extended their winning streak to four as the Spartans defeated Evergreen State University 2-1 Wednesday night in Olympia, Washington.
“We were sluggish to start the match. But I’m proud of the gutsy effort that our guys put forth to earn the win,” said TWU Head Coach Al Alderson. “We are a bit banged up and we had to have a number of guys play a lot of minutes in the last two matches, so it’s great for us to be coming home with two wins.”

Evergreen was first on the scoreboard in the 28th minute when freshman Sean Grisham (Steilacoom, WA) fed a pass inside to Eduardo Milan (Jr, Seattle, WA) who hit a low shot to the Spartans net

The combo of Kekec and midfielder Nick Perugini (4th year, Montreal, Que.) on the Spartans’ squad were a formidable pair against Evergreen. Adrian had one goal in the 60th minutes and 10 shots on goal while Perugini had one assist, 1 shot and a goal in the 56th minutes.

Keeper Adam Alvaro (2nd year, North Vancouver, B.C., transfer – Capilano College), who played the full match for the Spartans, made a number of quality saves late in the match to preserve the win for the TWU.

Trinity Western now sits at 4-3 this season, while Evergreen stands at 0-2.

The Spartans now return home to host the University of Saskatchewan on Saturday afternoon. Match time for the final preseason tune-up is set for 12:00 pm. TWU will then open the Canada West season against the University of Victoria on Thursday, September 7. Match time at TWU is set for 7:15 pm.

Match Notes: the two teams combined for 29 fouls, one yellow card and two red cards in the physical game. With five minutes left in the first period Evergreen's James McDonnell (Sr) and Trinity Western’s Jason Flint (4th year, forward, Abbotsford, B.C.) tussled on the ground. Arms were thrown and legs were kicked. Their conduct led to red cards for both players. Both teams played with 10 players the remainder of the first period...Kekec has now scored six goals in seven matches for the Spartans...TWU men’s soccer record for goals in a season is nine – held by five different Spartans...TWU had two goals called back in the first half on off side calls...
