TWU Spartan (1) at Gonzaga University Bulldogs (0)

BELLINGHAM, Washington
– A fine solo effort by Trinity Western University forward Jason Flint (Abbotsford, B.C.) proved to be the difference as the Spartans defeated NCAA Div. I Gonzaga University 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Bellingham, Wash.

“It was a good result for us and we are real happy with it,” commented TWU head coach Al Alderson. “And even though we were lean in numbers I was pleased with the how well the boys played.”

Flint’s goal came in the first half when he took a trough ball from the midfield, beat the defenders with a fine solo effort and then slotted ball into the bottom corner of Bulldogs net.

TWU keeper Kris Alexander (North Vancouver, B.C.) preserved the win for the Spartans with a couple of quality saves off of free kicks at the top of our box.

Tyler DeJong (Langley, B.C.) played the first half for TWU, while Alexander played the second half.

Today’s match was the final match for TWU fifth year forward Josh McCaig (Mission, B.C.). “Josh played really well and his presence will be missed,” stated Alderson.

The Spartans were short a number of players including Stefan Leslie (Surrey, B.C.) who was with Vancouver Whitecaps

Next up for the Spartans is at Oregon State University on Saturday, April 28. Match time in Corvallis, Oregon is set for 7 p.m.
