SPARTANS FALL TO MARAUDERS IN MARATHON MATCH

HAMILTON - The Trinity Western University men's volleyball team fell in a five set marathon match to the McMaster University Marauders Friday night in Hamilton, Ont.

The two teams took turns winning sets with the high light of the night being the fourth set where TWU overcame a 9-to-1 deficit to take the set 32-30. The final scores were 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 30-32 and 15-7 in favour of McMaster.

"It was a better match tonight. We played significantly better, and so did McMaster. For the most part it was very good entertaining volleyball," said TWU head coach Ben Josephson. "Our passing stabilized our offense and our team defense was quite good which allowed us to extended a lot of rallies and make them work for their points. It's still not the result that we are looking for, but we did a much better job of competing tonight."

According to Josephson, Mikiah Schalk (3rd year, leftside, Red Deer, Alta.) was a standout for the Spartans. "Mikiah was probably our best player on the floor tonight, both from the baseline and attacking the ball."

TWU will play McMaster one more time tomorrow at 4 p.m. EST before heading to Guelph for a match against the University of Guelph.

No official stats were kept in tonight's match.
