FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BISONS SWEEP SPARTANS TO SPLIT WEEKEND

WINNIPEG
–The No.6 University of Manitoba Bisons men’s volleyball team swept the Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday night at the Investors Group Athletic Centre on the campus of the University of Manitoba. The Bisons took the three sets 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 over the No.8 Spartans. The loss is the first of the season for the Spartans who fall to 5-1, while the win moves the Bisons to 5-4.

“We did not execute tonight and it was not a good night for us. To their credit they changed what they needed too and came out with lots of energy,” commented TWU Head Coach Ben Josephson. “First loss of the season for us and it is never easy to swallow a loss but I was also disappointed that we were not able to improve our performance through the match.”

The Bisons took control of the first set scoring the first four points on their way to a 14-7 lead. The Spartans battled back to within one point before falling 25-21. Manitoba continued their strong play into the second set to take a 2-0 lead with a 25-22 win.

The Bisons jumped out to an 8-3 lead to start the third set. The Spartans closed the match to 12-10 midway through the set, but the Bisons took six of the next nine points to lead 18-13. Trinity Western closed to within two points before Manitoba closed out the match with the 25-21 lead.

Dana Pischke had a match high 13 kills for the Bisons, while Steve Marshall of Abbotsford, B.C. had 12 for the Spartans.

Next up for the Spartans is at the University of Calgary on Nov. 27 and 28.
