The event, hosted by the Arthritis Society and Lupus Society of BC, will take place Friday, August 15th, 2008 at the Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club in Richmond, B.C.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – On Thursday night, at Newland’s Golf and Country Club, Spartan athletes were recognized and honoured in front of approximately 300 people including fellow athletes, coaches, staff, faculty, sponsors, family, and friends. The recipients of the Spartan Complete Champion Award™ , the night’s most prestigious honour, were women’s volleyball leftside Saralyn Stel (5th yr, Delia, Alta.) and women’s soccer defenders Erin-Marie Higgins (5th yr, Surrey, B.C.) and Whitney Agassiz (5th yr, Salmon Arm, B.C.).

The Trinity Western University Spartans women’s volleyball team (14-6 / 1-2) finished the season ranked sixth in the CIS Top Ten women’s volleyball poll. The Spartans saw their season come to an end last weekend after a tough loss to the fifth ranked Alberta Pandas (14-6 / 2-1) in the rubber match of their opening round best-of-three Canada West playoff series.

Spartan Women’s Volleyball Moves Up in CIS Poll

The Trinity Western University women’s volleyball team have moved up one spot to sixth in the final regular season CIS national poll. The Spartans (14-6) had a spectacular finish to the regular season, sweeping the UBC Thunderbirds (17-3), who dropped from second to third this week, 3-0 and 3-2 last weekend at TWU’s David E. Enarson gymnasium.

The Trinity Western University Spartans men’s volleyball team is back in the CIS Top 10 after splitting last weekend’s matches with the fourth ranked UBC Thunderbirds, including a 3-2 comeback victory last Saturday night. OTTAWA (CIS) – Despite two tough road losses over the weekend the Trinity Western University Spartans women’s volleyball team (10-6) remained in sixth in the latest CIS Top 10 poll, but no longer hold that spot outright. The Spartans lost twice in straight sets in Calgary to the third ranked Calgary Dinos (14-2), who also kept their spot in the standings. That the Spartans did not move down shows the respect the voters have for the Dinos and Spartans.

In the fall of 1963 TWU Dean of Students Leland Asa ordered new gold and brown uniforms for Trinity Junior College. The new uniforms arrived in January of 1964. To accompany the uniforms, the students were looking for a new name for the TJC athletic teams. They chose the Spartans.
