BELGRADE, Serbia - Veronique Mayer scored Canada's first goal of the 25th Universiade on a second half free kick, but it was too little, too late as the Canadian women's soccer team couldn't erased a 2-0 halftime deficit and dropped their opening match of the tournament, 2-1, to host Serbia at Stadium FC Obilic, Tuesday morning in Belgrade.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Team Canada complete schedule for the 2009 Summer Universiade in Blegrade, Serbia has been released. The first Canadian teams to take the field are the women’s and men’s soccer squads, which will be in action on Tuesday, June 30. The closing ceremonies are set for July 12.

The Spartans are sending their largest contingent ever to Belgrade, Serbia to compete in the 25th edition of the Summer Universiade, which is the second largest multi-sport games in the world after the Olympic Games.

EDMONTON – The Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA) announces that, due to a basketball playoff roster eligibility violation, Trinity Western Spartans men’s head coach Scott Allen has been suspended for the Spartans’ next two games for “not following Canada West men’s basketball playing regulations”, and the Trinity Western Athletics Department has been fined $1,000.

Spartan Web Radio will be back on-the-air Friday, October 24th when the TWU Spartans basketball teams host the Simon Fraser University Clan to start the 2008-2009 Canada West regular season. Join Marc Ragusin and Rick Pajor for the women's game pre-game at 5:50pn and then the tip-off at 6:00pm. Then 30 minutes following the final whistle of the women's game Kelcey Brade will bring you the men's game at 8:00pm, with the pre-game show commencing 10 minutes prior to tip-off.
