A LOOK AT THE WEEK AHEAD FOR THE TWU SPARTANS

LANGLEY, British Columbia
– This weekend the Trinity Western University soccer teams will have their Canada West home openers on Friday, September 17th and Saturday, September 18th , after opening the season on the road, while Spartans women’s volleyball team will open their preseason in the interior of British Columbia.

After opening the Canada West season on the road the No. 1 Trinity Western Spartans women’s soccer team returns to Langley, B.C. and Rogers Field for their home opener against the unranked University of Regina Cougars (1-0-1) Friday night and the University of Manitoba (0-1-1) on Saturday night. Both matches scheduled for 5 p.m. starts.  The Spartans 2-0 record is the result of an Alberta road trip that saw the TWU open the season with wins against the Lethbridge Pronghorns, 2-0, and Calgary Dinos, 2-1.

The Cougars are coming to Langley after one of their best starts in the history of their program. Last week Regina opened the season with and a 2-0 win over the University of the Fraser Valley and a tie 1-1 with the University of Victoria.

On Saturday night, the women concluded the weekend with the unranked Manitoba Bisons who most recently fell to University of the Fraser Valley’s Cascades in a single-goal game after tying the University of Victoria 1-1 on Saturday afternoon.

In men’s soccer action the currently No. 3 Spartans welcome the No. 5 University of Victoria Vikes and the unranked University of the Fraser Valley Cascades to Rogers Field. Both matches are scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. kick-off.  The Spartans (0-1) season opener on the road was a disappointing match against cross-town rivals, the UBC Thunderbirds, who shut out the Spartans 3-0 Friday night in Vancouver.

The 0-2 Vikes are coming into the weekend looking for their first win of the season, having been defeated 3-0 by the University of Calgary Dinos in Calgary on Saturday and 1-0 by the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in Lethbridge, Alta. on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday the1-1 Cascades come to Rogers Field fresh off of a weekend split in southern Alberta. The Cascades return to the lower mainland after a 2-0 shutout win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday night and a 4-2 loss to the University of Calgary Sunday afternoon in Calgary.
