A LOOK AT THE WEEK AHEAD FOR THE TWU SPARTANS

LANGLEY, British Columbia
– This week in Spartans action, the regular season draws to a close for the volleyball and basketball teams as they play the Manitoba Bison. In the hockey arena, the Spartans hockey team will play their final two home games of the BCIHL season.

In their last home and regular season games of the season, the No. 4 Spartan women's volleyball team (13-3) will face the No. 5 University of Manitoba Bison (10-6) on Friday and Saturday.

The Bison enter the weekend with a guaranteed place in the playoffs. They last played the Calgary Dinos to a weekend split, with the Bison gaining the upper hand in a 3-0 match followed by the Dinos replying to the effect of a 3-2 win.

The Spartans also have clinched a playoff spot, but look to finish the season strong against the Bison to hopefully clinch the top spot in the conference. Last weekend the Spartans swept the Brandon Bobcats 3-0 before being held off by the Bobcats and falling 2-3.

At the Langley Events Centre at Langley, B.C., both teams face their last regular season games. The games start at 6 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday. Live stats and video are available at gospartans.ca.

In men's volleyball, the No. 4 Spartans take on a closely matched team in the No. 5 Bison. Both teams boast 11-5 season records, and the Spartans and Bison sit at third and fourth respectively in Canada West standings.

The Bison, however, are trying to end a four game losing skid, including two games in Calgary last weekend. Against the Dinos, the Bison were unable to win a set and went home with two 0-3 losses.

Last weekend the Spartans played in Brandon, Man., against the Bobcats. The Spartans managed a 3-1 win on Friday before falling 3-1 on Saturday.

On Friday and Saturday the teams will clash at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C. Games start at 8 p.m. on Friday and 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Facing a final pair of games to end the regular season, the unranked Spartan women's basketball team will travel to Manitoba to square off against the unranked Bison.

The Spartans have a 3-19 record after besting Brandon in two games last weekend. On Friday the Spartans prevailed 65-35, before widening the gap in Saturday's 74-37 win.

Manitoba is a team possessing a 6-14 record, including two losses last weekend. On last Friday in Calgary, the Bison fell 79-93. On Saturday the Bison lost in a close 75-77 nail-biter.

The games start at 6 p.m. CST on both Friday and Saturday in Winnipeg. Live stats and video are hosted at http://cwuaa.tv/ .

The No. 4 Spartan men also travel to Winnipeg to take on a Manitoba Bison team that is on the cusp of a playoff position.

Last weekend the Spartans routed the Brandon Bobcats, sending them home after two tough games. On Friday the Spartans rolled back to the win column via an 85-64 game. The following night the Spartans showed no mercy as they won 104-45 in their last home game of the regular season. This brings their record to 19-3, good for second in Canada West.

The Bison are still trying to clinch a playoff position, after two losses to the Calgary Dinos last weekend. In Calgary the Bison were unable to overcome the Dinos, and lost 81-93 on Friday, and 91-100 in overtime on Saturday.

The teams hit the hardwood at 8 p.m. CST in Winnipeg on Friday and Saturday. The Bison provide live stats and streaming video at http://cwuaa.tv/.

In hockey action, the Spartans face first-place SFU and third-place Okanagan College this weekend.

The Spartans were unable to get a win last weekend, as they were defeated 4-1 by SFU.

Simon Fraser came away from last weekend with two more for the win column – a 4-3 marker over Okanagan College the 4-1 game over the Spartans. SFU has a 13-3-2 record on the season.

Okanagan College rebounded from their loss to SFU with a 9-2 win over UFV.

The game against SFU starts at 7 p.m. on Friday, while the Okanagan College match is a matinee starting at 1 p.m. Both games are hosted at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C. Streaming media is available at gospartans.ca.
