FINAL FALL WEEK: A LOOK AT THE WEEK AHEAD FOR THE TWU SPARTANS

LANGLEY, British Columbia
– This week the Spartans play their last regular season games before the end of the year. In Spartan volleyball action, the men`s and women`s teams will take on Thompson Rivers in a two game series. Meanwhile, the hockey team will travel to the interior to take on Okanagan College in a single game. Finally the Spartans swim team will participate in a local swim meet.

The No. 1 men`s volleyball team boasts a 8-0 record and remains the only unbeaten team in Canada West. The Spartans are looking for a pair of wins against the unranked WolfPack on the Thompson Rivers home court in Kamloops, B.C.

Last weekend the Spartans added two wins to their record a pair of games against the No. 9 Okanagan Heat. The Spartans were dominant from beginning to end, not allowing the Heat even one set victory. In the first match the Spartans took the game 3-0 with sets of 25-16, 25-11, and 25-21. The following night the Spartans remained strong in getting a second 3-0 win, and earned the win on the strength of set wins of 25-13, 25-21, and 25-19 to shut down the Heat.

The WolfPack will try to improve their 2-8 record this weekend at home, but so far have had a desperate season. Last weekend the WolfPack got their first win since the opening weekend, a 3-1 affair over the Winnipeg Wesmen.  In the match Thompson Rivers took the first, third, and fourth sets with scores of 25-20, 25-19, and 25-16 respectively, while dropping the second set 25-23 to the Wesmen. The night before, the WolfPack fell in three to the Wesmen, with scores of 29-27, 25-21, and 25-20.

The Spartans and WolfPack will clash at 7:45 p.m. on Friday and 6:45 p.m. on Saturday at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops, B.C. The games will be broadcast on canadawest.tv and will 0host live stats at the same website.

In women`s volleyball, the Spartans are on a four game winning streak following their sweep of the UBC Okanagan Heat. Trinity Western will now face the WolfPack, who are mired in a four game losing streak.

The Spartans made short work of the UBC-O team last weekend, sweeping both games 3-0. In the first match, the Spartans were consistently the better team, as evidenced by set wins of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-12. The next following game was more of the same, as the Spartans dispatched the Heat in with set scores of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-15.

Meanwhile, the WolfPack have struggled to find success this season, and hold a 3-7 conference record going into the games against the Spartans. Thompson Rivers put up a valiant effort in the first game of two against the Winnipeg Wesmen. The Wesmen took the first set 25-22, but the WolfPack came back fighting to take the next two sets 27-25 and 25-19, before losing their advantage and falling in a 3-2 game. In the next match the WolfPack were unable to take a set, and wound up losing 3-0 to Winnipeg in 25-17, 25-17, and 25-15 sets.

The Spartan women will play Thompson Rivers in Kamloops, B.C. at 6 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday for the two game series. Live stats and live streaming broadcast will be available at canadawest.tv.

On the ice, the Spartan men`s hockey team holds a 3-7-2 record on the season going into their game against Okanagan College.

The Spartans managed a tie and a loss last weekend at home against two different opponents. The first game was a 3-3 tie that was the result of a three goal rally in the third period from the Spartans. In the second game, the Spartans played the WolfPack and were crushed 6-1 by the Thompson Rivers team.

As for the Okanagan Coyotes, they are second in BCIHL standings with a 6-2-2 record following their win last weekend. The Coyotes played Selkirk College in a single game at the Kelowna Memorial Arena, earning the Coyotes a decisive 6-3 win.

The Spartans and Coyotes will play at the Kelowna Memorial Arena in Kelowna, B.C. on Friday night at 7:45 p.m.

Finally, in the pool, the Spartans will participate in the Richmond Rapids Invitational on Friday, December 2.
