SPARTANS TRIPLE HEADER WEEKEND

LANGLEY, British Columbia
– This week the Spartans put it all on the line as the post season approaches for all the active teams. The Spartans men’s and women’s basketball teams are back on home court after three weeks on the road. Spartans hockey is also playing at the Langley Events Centre in a pair of games against as many opponents. In volleyball action the Spartans will travel to Calgary to compete against the Dinos in two matches. Finally the Spartan track and field team will continue their tour with the Bison Invitational at Manitoba.

The Spartan men’s basketball team stands at 8-7 after last weekend’s loss against the Fraser Valley Cascades. Trinity Western’s six game winning streak came to an end on Saturday, when the No. 10 Cascades earned a 88-72 win over the visiting Spartans.

This weekend the Spartans will be playing Thompson Rivers in two games at home. The unranked Wolf Pack (5-9) are looking to end their five game losing skid in these games against the Spartans. Last weekend Thompson Rivers played on the road in the prairies. The first game took place in Edmonton against the Alberta Golden Bears, who took a 77-69 win over the Wolf Pack. On the following day the Saskatchewan Huskies managed a convincing 92-55 win over the visiting Thompson Rivers.

The Spartans and Wolf Pack will play at 8 p.m. on Friday and 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C. Canadawest.tv will provide access to live streaming video and live stats during both games.

Meanwhile, the women’s basketball team is in a position to battle for a playoff spot. Trinity Western holds an 8-7 record going into their last three games of the regular season. Last week the Spartans pulled off an upset of a victory against the No. 10 Cascades. The Spartans managed to pull off a 71-59 over their UFV opponent in the only game the Spartans played all weekend.

This weekend the Spartans return home to battle the unranked Thompson Rivers Wolf Pack. The Wolf Pack were swept last weekend by Alberta and Saskatchewan, with scores of 74-39 and 70-62 respectively, bringing the Wolf Pack record to 5-9.

The games between the Spartans and the Wolf Pack will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Langley Events Centre. Live stats and live streaming video are accessible at canadawest.tv.

On the volleyball court the Spartans will take to Calgary to compete against the No. 7 Dinos. Last weekend the men’s volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season against the No. 2 Manitoba Bison. In their first of two games against the Bison, the No. 1 Spartans fell 3-0 to their Manitoba hosts. On the following night the Spartans bounced back with a 3-0 win of their own over the Bison, bringing the Spartan record to 15-1.

Their opponent, the Calgary Dinos, have a 9-7 record after a pair of losses to Alberta last weekend. The Dinos first game was a 3-1 loss to Alberta, followed by a 3-0 rematch that also went to Alberta.

On Friday and Saturday the Spartans and Dinos will compete on the Dinos home court at 7 p.m. Live video and live stats are available at canadawest.tv.

The Spartan women’s volleyball team swept their Manitoba rivals last weekend with a pair of wins. The first game was a 3-1 Spartan win, while the next day was more of the same as the Spartans swept the Bison 3-0. This brings the Spartan record to 12-4 and have moved up to No. 2 in the CIS rankings.

Trinity Western will be playing the unranked Dinos in Calgary. The Dinos have a 8-8 season record including two losses last weekend in Alberta. In the first game of Calgary versus Alberta the Pandas came out on top in a 3-0 match. On the next day the Dinos once again fell, this time in a 3-1 game.

The battle between the Spartans and the Dinos will take place at 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. The games will be available live at canadawest.tv.

On the ice the Spartan men’s hockey team (3-9-3) looks to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing game against Simon Fraser. The Spartans lost an 8-1 game at home to No. 1 SFU, but will have a chance to redeem themselves at home against Selkirk and Okanagan.

The first team that the Spartans will face will be Selkirk. The Selkirk team has a 3-14 record, including their last two losses against Simon Fraser. In the two game series the Simon Fraser Clan beat Selkirk, first in a 6-1 game and second in a 10-1 match.

The Spartans will play Selkirk at 7 p.m. on Friday. The game will be streamed at langleyeventscentre.com.

On Saturday, the Spartans will take on Okanagan College. Last weekend the Coyotes played to a 3-3 draw against their Simon Fraser rivals, bringing the Selkirk record to 10-4-3. The game between the Spartans and the Coyotes will be at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on langleyeventscentre.com.

The last team that will be active this weekend is the Spartan track and field team. The Spartans will participate in the Bison Invitational in Winnipeg on Friday and Saturday.
