In the Spartans first meet of the year, George clocked a race-winning time of 34.65 while Nettey jumped 6.01m.

George was one of three to best the previous meet record of 35.35, which was held by Ethan Gardner. He also broke the school record of 35.27, which was set by Joel Halcro in 2003.

Nettey’s effort saw her make the CIS standard for nationals while also setting the TWU long jump record, which was held by current Spartan Hazel Ross (Bishopton, Scotland) at 5.51m.

Meanwhile, the Spartans Calum Innes (Bearsden, Scotland) won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.37 and, on the women’s side, Ross finished fourth in the 60m hurdles in 8.75.

James Linde (Coquitlam, B.C.) finished fifth in the men’s long jump with a jump of 6.82m and Anastasia Pearse (Victoria) was sixth in the women’s 300m with a time of 41.09.

The Golden Bear Open continues Saturday and Sunday in Edmonton. The Spartans track are also in Seattle Saturday for the University of Washington Indoor Preview. Click here to follow live results from the Indoor Preview.
