On the track, Sarah Inglis (Falkirk, Scotland) set the TWU record in the 3000m with a personal best indoor time of 9:26.31. Finishing third overall, she bettered the Spartans previous record of 9:29.12, which was posted by Fiona Benson (Dawson Creek, B.C.) Feb. 9, 2013 at Dempsey Fieldhouse. With her time, she also earned automatic qualification for the CIS national championships.

On the men’s side in the 3000m, Declan White (South Surrey, B.C.) also set the TWU record with a 10th place time of 8:19.82. The previous record of 8:24.55 was set by Blair Johnston (White Rock, B.C.) at last year’s University of Washington Indoor Preview on Jan. 12.

In the field earlier in the day, third-year Emma Nuttall (Edinburgh, Scotland) continued to impress in the high jump as she broke her own TWU record with a clearance of 1.86m to finish first. Nuttall’s previous indoor best and school record was 1.85m, which she set Feb. 23, 2013 at the Canada West championships. Nuttall’s jump also earned her automatic qualification for CIS nationals.

First-year Nathan Dunford (Bellingham, Wash.) also got in on the record-setting action as he cleared a TWU best 4.70m in his first pole vault competition with the Spartans. He bested Jamie Sinclair’s (Glasgow, Scotland) mark of 4.51m, which he set at last year’s conference championships.

In the same race that Inglis set the Spartans 3000m record, TWU’s Alison Jackson (Vermilion, Alta.) and Regan Yee (South Hazelton, B.C.) also clocked personal best times of 9:45.49 and 9:46.52 respectively.

In the men’s 3000m, Joel De Schiffart (Nanaimo, B.C.) also posted had a personal best time of 8:29.86.

The Spartans are back in action in two weeks when part of the team will compete at the University of Washington Invitational Jan. 31-Feb. 1 while the other part of the squad will compete at the Harry Jerome Indoor Classic in Richmond, B.C. Feb. 1.
