RELAY SPRINTS LEAD SPARTANS AT GOLDEN BEAR OPEN

EDMONTON – Trinity Western’s 4x200m relay teams led the Spartans sprinting contingent on the second day of Alberta’s Golden Bear Open as the women’s team finished first in its race while the men’s team broke a TWU record with a third place finish Saturday at the Universiade Pavilion.

The Spartans men’s 4x200m team, including Nathan George (Coquitlam, B.C.), Calum Innes (Bearsden, Scotland), Nick Ayin (Coquitlam) and James Linde (Coquitlam), finished with a time of 1:30.55 bettering the previous record of 1:30.98, which was set Feb. 23, 2013 by the same quartet.

TWU’s women’s relay team, featuring Sabrina Nettey (Surrey, B.C.), Hazel Ross (Bishopton, Scotland), Anastasia Pearse (Victoria) and Liza Whitehead (Surrey) finished first with a time of 1:42.39.

In an invitational 1000m event, Mihai Prajea (Calgary) finished sixth in a strong field with a time of 2:31.51.
