Spartans Mauled by Cougars

Langley, British Columbia - The Spartans dropped below .500 in Canada West play with a loss to the University of Regina on November 19. The Trinity Western University women's basketball team wasn't able to fire on all cylinders and Regina took advantage of the Spartans slow start. The final found the Cougars ahead 93-37.

Regina (4-1) came out strong and they proved they were every bit of their ranking of 3rd in the nation (CIAU). TWU (2-3) found themselves down 31 at the halftime break and were not able to make up the difference in the second.

Regina's CIAU All-Star, Corrin Wersta, led the game with 16 points and Heather Dedman added 15 for the Cougars. Katie Hall's 15 points led the Spartans.

Head Coach Rebecca Hays noted, "When we get away from the small things we get blown out of the water and tonight was an example of that. The small things were what got us the wins against Lethbridge and kept us close with Winnipeg and when you don't do them you are going to lose. We also need to work on our transition defense to stop their easy baskets."

The Spartans will have a chance to redeem themselves, as they host the Cougars, again, on November 20. Game time will be 6:15 p.m.
