TWU Spartans (45) vs Lewis & Clark State University (80)

Spartans in Tough at L.C. State

Langley, British Columbia - The sizzling second half 3-point shooting and strong rebounding of the Lewis & Clark State Warriors was too much for the Spartans women's basketball team. As the Warriors shot 54% (6-11) from behind the arc and out rebounded the Spartans 60-39 in handing the Spartans an 80-45 loss Friday in Lewiston, ID.

The Spartans held tough with the 4th ranked (NAIA) Warriors for much of the first half. After the first 20 minutes Trinity Western trailed Lewis & Clark by 10 points, 34-24. But the strong physical play of the Warriors was taking its toll on the Spartans.

The Spartans were unable to keep pace with the Warriors in the second half. Lewis & Clarke hit two consecutive 3 point shots to start the period, putting them up 40-24. LCS went on to control the play for most of the second half, out scoring TWU 46-21 over the final 20 minutes.

"It was a more physical game then what we were used too," said Spartan head coach Rebecca Hays. "It took a toll on us and it forced us into turnovers and defensive breakdowns in the second half."

The Spartans were led by Heidi DeHaan (1st year, Guard, Lynden, WA) 13 points, 2 rebounds and Katie Hall (2nd year, Forward, Abbotsford, BC) 7 points, 8 rebounds. While the Warriors were led by Sara McEachern (4th year, Post, Lewiston, ID) 23 points, 14 rebounds, Shannon Russel (3rd year, Guard, Ritzville, WA) 15 points (5-11, 3pt) and Alyssa Erickson (2nd year, Guard, Wilbur, WA) 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals.

Next up for the Spartans is Saturday, December 30 in Ellensburg, WA vs. Central Washington University. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
