A Hard Fought Win

Langley, British Columbia - Anna Chinnery (4th yr, F, Abbotsford, BC) - 6 points, 5 rebounds, came to the rescue Friday night. Chinnery hit a bucket in the lane with 3 seconds to go to give the Trinity Western University women's basketball team a hard fought 59-57 victory over the hometown University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.

The Spartans jumped out in front early and held a 29-22 lead at the end of 20 minutes. Trinity Western increased their lead to 18 points before the Pronghorns came storming back. The Pronghorns eventually tied the game and forced the Spartans into the last second heroics.

The key player for the Spartans was Beth Graham (1st yr, C, North Vancouver, BC), who played for 19 minutes and came out with 9 points and 11 boards. "Beth came in, played huge defense and grabbed key rebounds," says TWU Coach Rebecca Hays, "She was solid and steady which made her the player of the game."

Another standout game came from Katie Hall (2nd yr, G/F Abbostford, BC) who ended the game with 12 points. The key player for the Pronghorns was Beth Clawson who finished the game with 21 points.

The Spartans hope to sweep the weekend when they play tomorrow against the University of Lethbridge at 6:00 in the Lethbridge gym.
