Spartans Rally for Two

Langley, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University women's basketball team overcame a 9 point half time deficit, 39-30, Saturday night to defeat the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns 62-58 in Canada West league play.

The Spartans (3-17) completed the 2 game sweep of the Pronghorns (0-20) by shutting down the Lethbridge offense for most of the second half. The Spartans outscored the Pronghorns 32-19 in the second half. The Spartans held Lethbridge to a paltry 26% from the field and 0% from the 3-point line over the final 20 minutes.

"Lethbridge outplayed us for the entire first half," said TWU head coach Rebecca Hays. "But, we sucked it up and played some tough defense in the second half."

The Spartans were led by Heidi Frandrup (4th yr, G/F, Newport, WA) - 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists, who ran the Spartan offense while controlling the boards from the point guard position.

"Heidi Frandrup was our rudder tonight," said Hays. "She had and outstanding game at the point guard position."

Also leading the Spartans were Heidi DeHaan (1st yr, F, Lynden, WA) - 17 points, 4 rebounds and Anna Chinnery (4th yr, F, Abbotsford, BC) - 11 points, 5 rebounds. Beth Clawson - 27 points, 6 rebounds and Stacey Gammon - 17 points, 3 rebounds, led the Pronghorns.

The Spartans now head for home, where they will host the University of Calgary for the final two games of the season. Game time on Friday and Saturday, February 9 - 10 is set for 6:00 PM at Trinity Western University.
