TWU Spartans (2) at the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns (3)
Pronghorns Top Spartans

Lethbridge, Alberta – T
he Lethbridge University Pronghorns essentially took away any hopes of post season play for the Trinity Western University women’s soccer team this afternoon in Lethbridge, AB, as the hometown Pronghorns rode three first half goals to take the Spartans 3-2 in Canada West conference play.

The Pronghorns jumped out in front early when Kira Lawrence scored just two minutes into the first half. Then in the 16th minute Lethbridge made the score 2-0 when Michelle Deboer headed a cross from Angela Jackson past TWU’s Angela Garriott. Lawrence made it 3-0 for the Pronghorns in the 25th minute with her second goal of the match.

The Spartans finally got on the board in the 34th minute when Lindsay Rohla converted on a PK after a teammate was pulled down in the box. TWU continued to rally and forward Ashlee Davison made it a one goal game with a marker in the 41st minute.

The Pronghorns played more defensively in the second half, and the strategy paid off as they kept the Spartans off the board to secure the win.

“They put on a great defensive stand in the second half,” said TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh. “We still had a number of opportunities to score, but were unable to find the back of the net.”

The loss drops the Spartans to 5-5-1, while the win moves Lethbridge to 4-5-2. Next up for the Spartans is at the University of Calgary on Sunday, October 19, with the game time set for 12 noon.
