TWU's Garriott Solid in Opener

Langley, British Columbia - Angela Garriott's outstanding play was not enough, as the Trinity Western University women's soccer team dropped their pre-season opener 1-0 to the visiting Seattle Pacific University Falcons.

Garriott, a third year keeper from Nanaimo, BC made 13 saves to keep the Spartans in the match against the NCAA Division II powerhouse Falcons.

The "friendly" was a non counting scrimmage for the visiting Falcons, who finished last season with an impressive 17-2-2 record.

The Spartans will now travel to Seattle, WA for a match on Monday, August 22 against Seattle University, before heading to Chicago for four matches August 25-29.

Match Notes: Today's match saw the return of TWU third-year midfielder Katie Smart (Langley, BC). Smart sat out the 2003-04 season after injuring her leg in the second match of the year...SPU outshot the Spartans 13-4...The Falcons had six corner kicks to the Spartans' three...The Falcons' keeper made three saves to earn the shutout.
