TWU Spartans (9) at the University of Wisconsin Osh Kosh (1)

Oshkosh, WI
- The Trinity Western University women's offense kicked into high gear as the Spartans ran over the hometown University of Wisconsin Osh-kosh Titans 9-1. After leading 3-1 at the end of the first half the Spartans opened the floodgates as they tallied six unanswered goals over the final 45 minutes.

The nine goals sets a new team record, beating the previous high of seven set against the University of Lethbridge on October 27,01 (7-0 win) The six goals in a half is also a team record besting the previous high of five set in the first half of the same Lethbridge match.

"We had great possession and good off the ball movement and other then a lull in the first half we were pretty dominating," said TWU Head Coach Graham Roxburgh.

It took the Spartans awhile to get going but once they did, they could not be stopped.

Forward Ashlee Davison (4th yr, Maple Ridge, BC) opened the scoring in the 25th minute, and then Rachelle Armstrong (3rd yr, forward, Victoria, BC) made it 2-0 in the 31st minute. TWU midfielder Kristie Haukeland (5th yr, midfield, Surrey, BC) notched the third goal of the half in the 38th minute.

Not knowing what would happen in the second half Osh Kosh looked to keep the game close and gain some momentum with a late goal (44th minute) to close out the half trailing 3-1.

It did not take long for TWU to get control of the second half. Forward Carlee O'Brien (2nd yr, Nanaimo, BC) opened the second half scoring in 47th minute. Then Rachelle Armstrong added two more in the 53rd and the 60th minute.

Krysta Kons (3rd yr, midfield, Toronto, ON) made it 7-1 in the 68th minute and then Elysia Dubland (1st yr, midfield, Burnaby, BC) finished off the scoring with two more in the 77th and 85th minute.

The Spartans finish their four game road trip through Chicago and Wisconsin with a record of 3-0-1, scoring 15 goals while only giving up three.

Next up for TWU is hosting Langara College on Wednesday, September 1. Game time at TWU is set for 7:00 pm.

Match Notes: Last season the Spartans game high was six (6-1) against the University of Regina on October 4, 2003, TWU scored four goals in the second half...TWU outshot Osh Kosh 25-2 and had the edge in corners 10-0...Rachelle Armstrong has now scored five goals in her first six games as a Spartan... Rachelle's three goals in today's match ties her for second with Carlee O'Brien (Sept 25, 03 at Regina) for most goals in a match by a TWU player, trailing only Alexis Heinz (4th yr, midfield, Surrey, BC) who holds the record with four (Oct 27, 01 vs Lethbridge)...TWU keeper Angela Garriott (3rd yr, Nanaimo, BC) saw limited action in her 90 minutes of work...
