FALCONS FLY OVER SPARTANS

SEATTLE, Washington – Rookie forward Krista Gommeringer, of Calgary, scored the lone goal for the Spartans as the Trinity Western University women’s soccer team fell 6-1 to NCAA Div. II Seattle Pacific University Friday evening in Seattle, Wash.

“Disappointed with tonight, we did not have a good account of ourselves and we were unable to overcome some adversity,” commented TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh. “We were beaten by a team that was fresher, sharper and hungrier and were more clinical and took advantage of our mistakes.”

The Spartans got on the board with 20 minutes remaining in the match. Midfielder Jenna Di Nunzio made a pass up the left side to defender Nikki Byrne who one-timed the ball off the cross-bar. The rebound bounced off to Gommeringer, who was first on the spot to finish it.

Fifth year TWU keeper Kristen Funk played the entire match for the Spartans.

The Spartans will now have a few days to tighten things up before they head to California for three matches August 23-27.

TWU opens Canada West conference play on Friday, September 7 when they will host the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. Game time at Rogers Field is at 5 p.m.
