SPARTANS TAKE FRIENDLY

LANGLEY, British Columbia  – The Trinity Western University Spartans and the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades had a good run Friday night at Rogers Field at TWU’s Langley, B.C. campus. The Spartans bested the Cascades 2-0 in the spring friendly that was played in a constant downpour.

The two teams were scoreless at the end of the first 45 minutes.

But in the second frame TWU’s Krista Gommeringer was able to find the back of the net twice to make the final 2-0 for the Spartans. The Canada West 2012 Rookie of the Year scored in the 55th minute and got the insurance marker in the 83rd minute.

TWU’s Bailey Williams-Kapels earned the shutout for the Spartans.

Next up for the Spartans will be at the University of Victoria’s annual Keg Spring Cup on March 23 and March 24. TWU opens against the UBC Thunderbirds at 12 p.m. in Victoria.
