Thunderbirds Fly over Spartans

Langley, British Columbia –
The Trinity Western University women’s volleyball dropped their midweek match to the # 5 ranked University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-11) on Wednesday night in Vancouver, BC.

The Spartans never really got into a groove against the powerful Thunderbirds, as it took UBC just over an hour to record their 16th victory of the season. The win moves the Thunderbirds to 16-4, while the loss drops the Spartans to 0-20 in Canada West league play.

Despite the loss, rookie of the year candidate, Kristen Groot (1st yr, P, Burnaby, BC) continued to shine for the Spartans as she led the team with 7 kills and 7 digs. The Thunderbirds were led by Leah Allinger (4th yr, P, Calgary, AB) who recorded 8 kills and 12 digs.

The Spartans look for their first win of the season this weekend with two matches against the University of Winnipeg. Game time at Trinity Western University on Friday and Saturday, February 2 & 3 is set for 6:00 PM.
