Regina Takes Two

Langley, British Columbia –
Trinity Western’s women’s volleyball team had a much-improved performance tonight against the host University of Regina, but a few costly mistakes resulted in the Cougars winning 3-0 (16-25, 22-25, 20-25).

In what was probably the turning point of the match, the Spartans led for all of the second set until the score was 22-21, at which point they gave up four straight points on errors to lose the set 22-25.

“We had a much better performance tonight, but mistakes at crucial moments kind of cut the legs out from under us,” said Coach Carol Hofer. “Kristin Groot (5 kills, 3 service aces, 6 digs and 3 blocks) played very well, along with Jodi Schaufele (5 kills, 2 digs) and Lies Verhoeff (6 kills, 2 service aces, 2 digs). We’re disappointed to lose two on the road, and we look forward to playing at home again.”

Regina’s Sam Lawrek led everyone with 11 kills, along with 10 digs and 2 blocks.

TWU plays at home against Winnipeg next weekend, November 29th and 30th. Game time is 6:00pm both nights.

Game Notes: Both teams struggled offensively with Regina tallying 10 attack errors and 7 service errors and TWU totaling 15 and 10, respectively…TWU and Regina each had a total of 4 team blocks…
