Game Recap

Women’s Volleyball (Conference)
Friday, January 10, 2003
TWU Spartans (0) vs. the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds (3)
(8-25, 14-25, 19-25)

“Tomorrow, Tomorrow…”

Langley, British Columbia –
Not unlike their basketball counterparts, TWU’s women’s volleyball team could not kickstart their game tonight, losing on the road to UBC 3-0 (8-25, 14-25, 19-25). Both teams had slow starts and were unable to recover in time to salvage their respective matches. It appears that the best remedy may be to look forward to a new day and starting with a clean slate.

The Spartans could not take advantage of their limited service errors with their normally potent service attack, instead failing to record a single service ace. TWU’s offense sputtered tonight and could not seem to find the spark that would get it going. Often when things aren’t going well offensively a team will turn to its defense for motivation, but tonight just was not Trinity Western’s night. They recorded 33 digs and 4.0 blocks to UBC’s 46 and 9.5, respectively.

Both teams played their entire roster, but the Spartan bench was limited to only four players.

Kristen Groot and Jodi Schaufele led TWU with 8 kills apiece, and Izzy Czerveniak led UBC with 10 kills.

TWU plays at UBC again tomorrow night, Saturday, at 6:00pm.
