Spartans Split in Saskatoon

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan –
The Trinity Western University women’s volleyball team is leaving Saskatoon with a weekend split against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. After winning 3-2 (15-13 in the fifth set) in Friday night’s match the Spartans lost 15-13 in the fifth set Saturday, losing 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 25-13, 20-25, 15-13).

“We had a lot of unforced and tentative errors, which proved to be really costly for us tonight,” said TWU Head Coach Carol Hofer. “We battled, but we just did not play to the level that we needed to in order to win in this league.”

Saralyn Raugust (2nd yr, leftside, Delia, AB) led the Spartans with 12 kills, eight digs and two aces, while Stephanie Wheler led the Huskies with 14 kills and 15 digs.

The loss drops the Spartans to 3-7 in Canada West league play, while tonight’s win was the first of the season for the 1-9 Huskies.

The Spartans will now return home to battle the Simon Fraser University Clan. Match time on Friday January, 14 and Saturday, January 15 is set for 6:00 pm at TWU’s David E. Enarson Gym.

Match Notes: the Huskies finished with a 32.3% kill percentage, while the Spartans finished at 23.4%...TWU had 11 team blocks, while Saskatchewan had nine team blocks…Saskatchewan scrambled for an amazing 68 digs…
