Spartans Down 1-0 to Dinos

Calgary, Alberta –
The eighth ranked Trinity Western University women’s volleyball team opened the Canada West playoffs with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-19) loss to the number one ranked University of Calgary Friday night in Calgary. The win gives the Dinos a 1-0 lead in the best of three Canada West semi-final.

“We were nervous to start and we could not get anything going,” said TWU Head Coach Carol Hofer. “Calgary had a very strong attack and showed why they are the number one team in the country. But we will look to improve our start tomorrow night and have a better overall performance.”

The defending 2003-04 National Champion Dinos (20-0) used a 34% attack efficiency to power their way to a three set victory.

Danielle Foth (1st yr, LS/RS, Abbotsford, BC) led the Spartans (8-12) with eight kills and three digs, while Joanna Niemczewska led the Dinos with 12 kills and six digs.

The two teams will play match number two of the best of three series Saturday at 6pm in Calgary.

Match Notes: TWU hit at 4% for the match…Calgary had eight team blocks, while TWU had two and a half…TWU’s Keanna Tome ( 1st yr, setter/RS, Delta, BC) had the lone service ace of the match….The Spartans lost their two regular season matches to the Dinos 3-1, 3-1 on November 18 & 19…
