SPARTANS TAKE THUNDERBIRDS IN FOUR SETS

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University women’s volleyball team improved to 3-1 in preseason play as they defeated the UBC Thunderbirds 3-1 in Saturday’s West Coast Classic match at War Memorial Gym.

The Spartans dropped the first set 25-15 before taking the match 25-15, 25-22, and 25-21.

“It was a good back and forth battle with UBC tonight. We served really well, our role players did a fantastic job,” commented TWU head coach Ryan Hofer. “We are learning a lot about ourselves as a team our lineups and our talents and what works for us as individuals and as a team.”

Fifth year middle Alicia Perrin with 14 kills and third year outside Ellie Wendel with 10 kills and 11 digs led the Spartans. Nikki Cornwall finished the night with 33 set assists. “Nikki has been doing a good job setting and is playing really well,” commented Hofer on the Spartans second year setter.

The Spartans will finish of the tournament tomorrow afternoon against the University of Regina Cougars.

Trinity Western opens up Canada West conference play next Friday-Saturday when they will host the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.

Match times at the Langley Events Centre are set for 6 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday. Both matches will be streamed live on Canadawest.TV.
