Deborah Gibson, RN, MSN

Assistant Professor of Nursing

  • Biography

    My research interests focus in the area of Maternal-Child Health related to communicable diseases, global health initiatives and mental health concerns such as building supportive environments for women, and their families, experiencing perinatal mood disorders. I have an interest in spiritual formation in higher education and wellness in the nursing profession. As the community health nursing course instructor, I am focused toward advancing students’ comprehension and application of health promotion, primary health care, social determinants of health, disease prevention relational nursing practice. Additionally, I have an interest in international nursing experiences and co-led the Nursing travel studies course to Zambia the Summer of 2013. My current research projects include: spiritual formation in the classroom for emerging adults and the co-creation of a wise decision-making grid for nursing.  

    My experiences in clinical practice include Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, Neonatal ICU, Public Health and Nursing Education. My clinical focus is in community health,  maternity and pediatric nursing. I currently teach in the undergraduate nursing program including Health Promotion and Primary Health Care, Pediatric Community clinical experience, Community Health Nursing and Preceptorship.
