The Writing Centre is a service available to assist all students with their academic writing assignments in any subject. Trained tutors help students individually with writing tasks such as choosing a topic, formulating a thesis, generating ideas, organizing an outline, assessing paragraph development, documenting sources, and revising sentence structure, grammar, word choice, and punctuation.   There is no charge for this service.

For the fall semester and spring semesters, Writing Centre appointments take place upstairs in Douglas Centre, directly above the Lower Cafeteria.

During the summer, Writing Centre appointments are administered and held in in the Northwest Building. Please contact Continuing Education for information about the specific location.

Weekly Schedules: The weekly schedule is posted on-line on Wednesday or Thursday of the preceding week. Since appointments often fill up quickly, please book your tutorial as soon as possible. You may book a maximum of two 30-minute appointments per week online; if you require additional time, please inquire at the Writing Centre about drop-in appointments. If no appointments are available you can waitlist yourself for a maximum of four different appointment times. Be sure to cancel any remaining waitlisted slots once you’ve been confirmed for two 30-minute appointments. Cancellation policy: All morning appointments must be cancelled online no later than 9pm the preceding evening; all afternoon appointments must be cancelled online at least 3 hours before the scheduled time. Students who miss two appointments or cancel them later than these deadlines cannot have another appointment for 14 days. Students who miss 3 appointments or cancel them later than these deadlines will lose their Writing Centre privileges for the rest of the semester. We want to help as many people as possible, so please remember the courtesy of cancelling appointments you cannot keep.
