Langley
, BC—  On April 9th and 10th , the TWU Concert Band and Orchestra present their spring repertoire in a lively concert including selections of music from Beethoven to Gershwin.

The Orchestra will perform Beethoven’s tuneful Symphony No. 8. and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ arrangements of traditional English melodies in “Fantasia on Greensleeves“ and “Five Variants of  Dives and Lazarus.” The Vaughan Williams works both feature first-year music major Esther Cannon on the harp.

“It has been a particular pleasure to incorporate harp into our orchestra this semester,” comments Orchestra conductor Dr. Jon Thompson (DMA).  “The instrument adds a brilliant but beautiful timbre to our string orchestra in the lush music by Ralph Vaughan Williams.”

The Concert Band concludes the program with an international selection of music, including an arrangement of George Gershwin’s “An American in Paris” and Rossini’s “Overture to the Italian Girl in Algiers,” as well as two ambitious Russian pieces.

The concerts will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Langley and Peace Lutheran Church in Abbotsford.

This event is part of the Festival of the Arts, Media and Culture at Trinity Western University, April 6-16 — two weeks of art, literature, music, film, and theatre events that showcase and celebrate the creative activity of TWU students and faculty.
