TWU president Jonathan Raymond, Ph.D., delivered the fourth annual State of the University Address on April 29th. The theme of this year’s address was “celebration and inspiration” – celebration of the progress the University has made in the past four years, and the inspiration found in the difference the University is making in lives in Canada and around the world.

Dr. Raymond took to the podium and opened with prayer. He then began the address by reviewing some of the improvements the University has made in over the past four years. These included: restructuring for a more efficient Board of Governors and senior management team; building a multi-year financial plan and budget model; strengthening the enrolment strategy; and reducing operation costs. Dr. Raymond stated, “In the past four year, the University has begun to transform and adapt its core systems, processes and goals in order to become more efficient, financially stable, and even better equipped to transform the lives of our students.”

He also spoke about how TWU’s students will travel to 19 different countries this year including Cambodia, Russia, Paraguay, Tanzania, and Guatemala on either global outreach teams or travel studies.

Laying out the future vision of the University, Dr. Raymond pointed to the unity and resolve of the TWU community, saying, “We are united around cost savings initiatives, difficult as they may be. We are united around tracking measurable goals for change that lead to solving systematic problems and creating a better workplace. We are united around introducing innovation to increase revenues and recruitment outcomes. We are united around achieving our missional purpose in Christian higher education – to develop godly Christian leaders, who will impact the world’s deepest needs and take on the world’s deepest opportunities.”

Though the focus of the event was the State of the University Address, the evening also featured several other presentations that highlighted the impact TWU is having through its students, faculty, and alumni. Phil Goertzen, Ph.D., gave an update on his work with TWU and ELIC (English Language Institute China) in North Korea. Also, a new video about the Spartans women’s soccer team was screened for the first time.
