Dr. Adolfo Roitman to give public lecture at TWU

The curator of the Shrine of the Book in Jerusalem and Guardian of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Dr. Adolfo Roitman will visit TWU to give two lectures on September 27 and 28, 2010. This event is sponsored by the Canada Research Chair in Dead Sea Scrolls Studies.

Shrine of the BookAdolfo Roitman, Ph.D., is Lizbeth and George Krupp Curator of the Dead Sea Scrolls and Director of the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem (left), one of the world’s leading archaeological museums. An ordained conservative rabbi, Dr. Roitman earned his Ph.D. in Ancient Jewish Thought at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1993, and was conferred a Doctor Honoris Causa degree by Rocky Mountain College in 2005. His field of research is Ancient Jewish Literature and Religion.

Dr. Roitman lectures widely on early Jewish literature, the history and significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls and biblical interpretation, and has served as a visiting scholar at universities across the United States, Central and South America, and Europe. He is the author of numerous articles and books including: A Day at Qumran: The Dead Sea Sect and Its Scrolls (Jerusalem, 1997); The Sectarians from Qumran: Daily Life of the Essenes (Barcelona, 2000, in Spanish); Envisioning the Temple. Scrolls, Stones and Symbols (Jerusalem, 2003); and recently, Bible, Exegesis and Religion. A Critical-Historical Reading of Judaism (Navarra, 2010, in Spanish).
