The third International Symposium on Faith and Nursing, hosted by the Trinity Western University School of Nursing, will be held May 10 – 12, 2012. Nurses and caregivers from various practice and academic settings will gather to discuss the interface between religion, spirituality, nursing and healthcare ethics.

The symposium features esteemed speakers from around the globe, including Elizabeth Johnston Taylor, Ph.D., from the Mary Potter Hospice, Auckland, NZ and Loma Linda University, CA; Dónal P. O'Mathúna, Ph.D., from Dublin City University, Ireland; Marsha Fowler, Ph.D., from Azusa Pacific University, CA; Evelyn Voyageur, Ph.D., President of the Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada; Rani Srivastava, Ph.D., from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Toronto, ON; and Sonya Grypma, Ph.D., from Trinity Western University, BC.

The public is invited to attend a multi-faith public panel on Diversity and Health Care Services on Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m. in TWU’s Northwest Auditorium. The panel aims to inspire and facilitate conversations around the inclusion of religious perspectives into ethics in practice and in public policy.

The symposium is aligned with National Nursing Week, May 7 to 13, and pays tribute to the May 12 anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the celebrated English nurse who is widely considered the founder of modern nursing.

Two books recently released by Springer Publishing will be available at the event: Religion, Religious Ethics, and Nursing, edited by Marsha Fowler, Sheryl Reimer-Kirkham, Elizabeth Johnston Taylor, and Richard Sawatzky; and Religion: A Clinical Guide for Nurses by Elizabeth Johnston Taylor.

To register or for additional information, please visit the Faith and Nursing Symposium website.

This event is sponsored by a grant from the Priscilla and Stanford Reid Trust/Foundation and the TWU Provost Research Grant.
