TWU welcomes Distinguished Lecturer Dr. Katharine Hayhoe

Trinity Western University’s 2014 Distinguished Lecture Series will feature renowned atmospheric scientist and evangelical Christian Dr. Katharine Hayhoe.

One of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2014, Hayhoe studies climate change and its implications for people and the natural environment. Her objective is to bridge the gap between scientists and the Christian community, some of whom believe global warming is a sham.

What sets Hayhoe apart from others in her field is her approachability—and Christian faith. “Dr. Hayhoe is a researcher who is dedicated to clear communication of the facts,” said TWU’s David Clements, Ph.D., Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies. “She is among the large percentage of climate scientists who, through careful analysis, recognize that climate change is real and human-caused—and therefore, requires human intervention to fix.”

Together with her husband Andrew Farley, a pastor, professor of applied linguistics, and best-selling author, Hayhoe wrote “A Climate for Change: Global Warming Facts for Faith-based Decisions.” The book explains the complex science and tackles many long-held misconceptions about global warming. The native of Toronto—who is an associate professor at Texas Tech University—has also been featured for her work as a climate change evangelist in the documentary series “Years of Living Dangerously” and “The Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers.”
