President Bob Kuhn continues to strengthen Trinity Western University’s Executive Leadership Team with the appointment of Bob Nice, a seasoned financial management expert. He will serve as TWU’s new CFO and Senior Vice-President of Business Affairs as of July 11.

Nice will oversee the university’s finance, human resources, information technology and campus facilities departments. His tasks will include strategic planning, development, implementation, administration and evaluation of all administrative and support units under his management.

"Providing leadership for the business aspects of a university requires a broad set of skills, applicable experience and attention to detail while retaining a mission-based perspective," said President Kuhn. "It also requires the ability to gain the trust and loyalty of numerous teams, not to mention depth of personal character, spiritual maturity and a clear sense of calling. Bob brings all of these to his demanding role, and fits our immediate and long-term needs without question. I am confident Bob Nice will fit in well, add significantly to administration's ability to make the best decisions and provide further depth in the Executive Leadership Team."

Nice brings with him more than 20 years of experience in leadership and management and over 30 years of experience in business. For the past four years, he has owned and operated his consultancy practice, through which he provides advice to businesses going through major transitions such as mergers, acquisitions and restructuring. He also has experience teaching in UBC’s MBA program and at the University of New Brunswick.

“It is my hope and desire to use what I have learned throughout my career to help TWU grow and have an even greater impact on our students, our community and the world,” Nice said. “My dream is to help create a solid financial and operational foundation.”

Nice has led the finance function in a number of companies, serving as Chief Financial Officer for the Armstrong Group, which operates the Rocky Mountaineer, as well as Primus, Canada’s largest telecommunications provider. He was also the senior finance leader for Irving Oil, which operates the largest refinery in Canada. He has extensive experience in leading changes that enhance organizational effectiveness and efficiency. Nice has also led the implementation of several reporting systems that align operational and financial metrics with strategic plans.

After graduating from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1984, Nice got his first job working at Deloitte. He then moved to Bermuda, where he was the island’s assistant auditor general, before coming back to Canada to work for Irving Oil Limited. He received his CA designation from the Atlantic School of Chartered Accountancy in 1987 and his MBA from Queen's University in 2010.

During his free time, Nice coaches minor hockey and baseball teams and volunteers as an advisor to Night Shift Ministries. He and his wife Lindy are regulars at Peace Portal Alliance Church.
